What we collect

The information we collect depends on what you do on the site.

  • When you subscribe to a newsletter, we collect the email address you provide, the newsletter you signed up for, and the date you signed up.
  • When you send us a tip or a message, we receive whatever you send us — including your email address, name if provided, and the contents of your message.
  • When you visit the site, our hosting infrastructure logs standard request data: IP address, user agent, referring URL, and pages visited. This is used to operate the site and detect abuse.
  • Analytics. We use a small amount of anonymized analytics data to understand which stories readers reach. We do not sell this data, and we do not build profiles on individual readers.

What we do with it

  • Send you the newsletters you asked for.
  • Answer messages you send us.
  • Operate the site, keep it fast, and keep it safe from abuse.
  • Understand, at an aggregate level, what our readers read.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your email or personal data with advertisers or data brokers.

Who we share it with

To run this site we work with a small number of vendors — a hosting provider, an email delivery provider, and an analytics provider. Those vendors handle data only as needed to provide their service to us and are contractually required to protect it.

We may disclose information if we are required to by law, if a court has ordered it, or if disclosure is necessary to protect the safety of a person. We contest overbroad legal requests where we can.

Your choices

  • You can unsubscribe from any newsletter at any time using the link at the bottom of every email.
  • You can ask us to delete your subscription record and any correspondence you’ve sent us. Email privacy@nationalreformer.com.
  • You can ask us what information we have about you and receive a copy of it.
  • You can set your browser to reject cookies. Some features of the site may not work as smoothly if you do.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws like the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) or the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). We honor those rights. Contact us to exercise them.

How long we keep things

We keep newsletter subscriptions until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them. We keep correspondence for as long as we may reasonably need it to answer follow-ups or resolve a matter you raised. Standard server logs are retained for a short window for operational and security purposes.

Sources and protected communications

If you contact us as a confidential source, we treat your identity and the fact of your contact as protected. We take reasonable steps to keep that information out of systems where it could be exposed. See our Ethics page for how we handle sources generally.

Children

This site is not directed to children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we’ll delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we materially change how we handle your information, we’ll update this page and change the “last updated” date at the top. Substantive changes will be surfaced on the site.
